Functional Neurology is the application of brain based rehabilitation which integrates the study and application of neuroanatomy, physiology, reflexogenic systems and biomechanics. An alteration to the brain or body due to head trauma/whiplash, birth trauma, inflammation, neurological damage, degeneration or altered biomechanics can result in a change in function to the brain as well as many areas of the body. These changes in function also result in inappropriate information being sent through the relay centers of the brain. Symptoms such as tremors, dizziness, double vision, spasticity, hypotonia, neuro-developmental delay, changes in gait patterns, problems with speech and even psychological conditions occur when dysfunction or altered communication is present in the brain. Unfortunately, this process of dysfunction is an ongoing negative feedback mechanism, unless the information being relayed is corrected, the problem will continue to persist.

Each patient will receive an individualised set of therapies based on their goals and our prognosis. Goal setting is an important part of the process; we ask that patients and families to opening discuss changes they want to make and how much they’re able to put into the process outside their treatment time. With a team-based approach, including family, caregivers, therapists, and other doctors; our patients have reached and even surpassed their goals for their intensive neuro-rehabilitation programs.

Treatment is not a "one size fits all” approach. Rehabilitation programs are dependent on your exam findings. The longer someone’s brain is adapting to negative changes, the longer it will take to rehabilitate their way out of it.

LIFESTYLE MEDICINE is all about putting in place targeted lifestyle interventions designed to both prevent chronic diseases and treat (and even reverse) existing ones.

The chronic diseases include obesity, diabetes, blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, mental health like anxiety, depression, early stage dementia.

Lifestyle Medicine focuses on a holistic patient care and a personalized approach to healthcare by understanding complex interactions between genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that contribute to an individual's ill health.

Lifestyle Medicine uses detailed patient's histories and laboratory tests to create a treatment plan and combined with conventional treatments when required and seeks to address the root causes of diseases.

Comprehensive Treatment Plans aim to help individuals to adopt healthier lifestyle choices and behaviors to prevent chronic disease onset or progression.
Lifestyle Medicine focusses on promoting wellness and reducing the need for pharmaceutical interventions and emphasizes the role of lifestyle factors in preventing and treating chronic diseases and empowers individuals to take an active role in managing their health.

Unlike the conventional medical approach that often relies on medications and surgical interventions, Lifestyle Medicine emphasizes the impact of lifestyle factors on the individual's health and wellbeing. It is evidence based mainstream medical practice.

When including Lifestyle Medicine in the management of diseases, the areas which can be explored include:

- improving nutrition and gut health (the MICROBIOME)
- taking part in regular physical activity
- sleep (quantity and quality)
- stress management
- importance of social connection
- avoiding toxins (smoking / alcohol)

Addressing these areas help to achieve better outcomes and reduce the burden of chronic illnesses. This has been amply shown in populations living in the 5 BLUE ZONES of the world where there are more centenarians than elsewhere in the world and living in good health. All this has led to an increase in medical research in the science of LONGEVITY - increase in both the lifespan and health span.

If you’re looking to kick-start a healthier lifestyle, build your energy levels, boost your metabolism, improve skin tone or assist with a weight loss program then these are just a few of the benefits of colonic hydrotherapy.

Important Information to Digest:

Colonic Irrigation, Colonic Hydrotherapy, Colon Cleanse or simply “a Colonic” are all terms used to describe what is fast becoming one of the most sought after health treatments in Europe.

Colonics can help with: IBS, diverticulitis, parasites, candida, allergies, intolerances, irregular bowel movements, low energy levels, depression, skin problems and many other conditions.

How Can Colonic Hydrotherapy/Irrigation Help?

Colonic Hydrotherapy/Irrigation is the process whereby filtered water flows into the colon to soften and remove the impacted waste matter that has built up over time.

One colonic is the equivalent to 20-30 bowel movements.

Colonic Hydrotherapy/Irrigation benefits:

-Promotes normal bowel function

-Increased energy levels

-Helps with weight loss program

-Improved metabolism

-Improved circulation

-Feel ‘lighter’ and ‘clean’ afterwards

-Bloated feeling reduced

-Reduced toxins in the body

-Improved absorption of essential nutrients

-Strengthens the immune system

-Toning of the abdomen

-Improved digestion

-Better skin tone

Our digestive system has a lot to do with the way we feel, how we look and our general well-being. Your digestive system can easily become imbalanced through poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, choice of drink and general lifestyle.

Food that isn’t digested fully ends up in the colon where it builds up over time. This causes the digestive system to slow down, be less efficient and back-up. A backed-up colon is also a breeding ground for unhealthy bacteria, causing a build up of toxins in the body.

FAQ’s:

Q: Is Colonic Irrigation safe?

A: Yes. At United Care we use state of the art equipment and all equipment is sterile and disposed of after every treatment. During your consultation our doctors/nurses will answer any questions you have and also ensure that colonic irrigation is right for you. If there are any concerns the procedure will not take place until both parties are happy.

Q: How frequently do I need Colonic Irrigation?

A: We normally recommend a course of 3 treatments and that they are carried out within a 10 day period, as leaving it longer will reduce the effectiveness of the treatments.

After you have completed your course of treatments, it would normally be 6 months before we would recommend a maintenance session, depending on your condition, of course, this is why we have a detailed client intake form, and every client will be assessed and treated according to their specific needs.

Q: Is it painful?

A: No. There is an unusual sensation at the beginning but as you relax you will become completely at ease with the treatment.

**Our clinic specialises in a team-based approach with all our patients to ensure a complete restoration and rehabilitation program is in place to focus on your health concerns. Our teams are designed to help guide you with specialised services and collaborative minds regarding your treatment plan.**
